A typomorphological approach to design: The plan for St Gervais

Pages 129-141 | Published online: 05 Nov 2010

This plan involves the application of typomorphological methods to different stages of the plan preparation process for a French alpine resort. The methods, determined by limited resources, are used to explore and select local building types which form the basis of the plan. Within a tightly prescribed legal framework, the main issue is to promote building forms which maintain the qualities of the natural environment and the distinctive character of the settlement while allowing the development of tourism.
