Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present the development of the Family Health Status Inventory (FHSI) (Norem, Malia, & Garrison, Citation2001), including estimates of its reliability and validity. The FHSI was developed as a parsimonious self-report, matrix-format, Likert-type assessment to measure the health status of families. The FHSI includes 16 items on which participants report for all family members. Following initial content validity appraisal and principal-components, reliability, and correlational analyses from two studies with different samples, we concluded that we had found support for the reliability and validity of the FHSI.
