Pages 39-46 | Published online: 22 Oct 2008

SUMMARY

This paper discusses the artistic and economic relationships that helped shape the graphic design of modern paperbacks as they emerged in the illustrations of the pulp magazine and paperback illustrator, Earle K. Bergey (1901-1952). The examples upon which the discussion is based are taken from the Vintage Paperback Collection and the Pulp Magazine Collection of the Popular Culture Library of Bowling Green State University.
