Journal overview

Since its inception in 1981, Activities, Adaptation & Aging (AAA) has established itself as one of the leading and oldest double anonymized peer-reviewed international journals within the field of gerontology.

AAA strives to be a premier journal in which to both publish and discover innovative, provocative, and rigorous research regarding the implications of various activities on older adults’ quality of life.

AAA seeks to lead with a collection of insightful research and thought leadership to promote culture change/transformation and pragmatic innovations for healthy aging. Transforming institutional culture is needed in all settings where older adults reside. Both the field of gerontology and the places where people work, but more importantly where older adults also live, need a strong push toward normalcy. This journal stands for a new concept that each older adult ages in a place of choice and thus strives to highlight pragmatic solutions developed to enable older adults to live with purpose and dignity, resonating with the needs and preferences, voices, and choices of older adults.

As a result of this new focus, the new secondary title of AAA is Purposeful and Dignified Living for Older Adults.

What we publish

AAA welcomes submissions that demonstrate an awareness of the journal’s body of knowledge, language requirement, topical coverage, and methodological preferences.

Body of knowledge

  • Submissions to AAA should be written for AAA, not for other journals. Hence, it is important that authors review past research published by AAA to ensure that their current research truly extends (not replicates) the extant discussion of closely related topics in the journal.
  • Submissions should ideally be using the most recent and relevant references in addition to any seminal references from reliable sources.
