Journal overview

Perspectives: Studies in Translation Theory and Practice encourages the submission of papers that explore issues concerning all kinds of language and cultural mediation, including but not limited to literary translation, technical and scientific translation, interpreting, audiovisual translation, intralingual mediation and so on. Both empirical and theoretical studies are welcome, but articles should appeal to a wide international readership. From 2022, Perspectives will not consider articles on pedagogical issues. Perspective does not process articles whose focus is a comparative analysis of source and target texts or which merely analyse translation strategies.

Perspectives also encourages interdisciplinary studies, with areas such as communication studies, sociology, applied and theoretical linguistics, history, literary theory, postcolonial studies, gender studies and so on. Authors are expected to engage with previous publications which might open up new avenues and directions of research.

Contributors are reminded that submissions should be written in good academic English and follow the style guide of the journal.

Perspectives. Studies in Translation Theory and Practice is published six times a year, each issue consisting of approximately 160 pages. The language of publication is English although the issues discussed may involve all languages and language combinations. Submissions should be circa 7,000 words.

Perspectives also publishes reviews of some of the most important publications in the field. Those interested in reviewing a book should contact our review editor, Kyle Conway, at [email protected]. Perspectives does not publish unsolicited reviews.

Review guidelines
Aside from offering an accurate description of the contents of the book, a book review should be a reasoned attempt at assessing its relative value and scope with reference to similar works in the field. It should therefore include a bibliographical review of previous publications, a critical assessment of the debates involved and the book’s contribution to these. Objectivity on the part of the reviewer is essential. Formal aspects such as style, layout, critical apparatus, reference system, etc. should also be attended to.
Reviews will be considered for publication only if the book under review has appeared within one year of the date of submission. Book reviews should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words. Unsolicited book reviews will not normally be considered for publication, unless the book under review is an outstanding, international landmark in the field.

Peer Review Policy

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double anonymized and submission is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts.
